Goods for Guns Foundation :

Fundraising

Goods For Guns will use both traditional and nontraditional means of soliciting support for goods and for general and administrative expenses. Goods (vouchers) are expected to account for approximately 90% of the support necessary for the program, based on six exchanges disbursing $1.8 million worth of goods.

Individuals

  • Adopt-A-Gun. A print fundraising campaign asking individuals to '"adopt" a gun off the street ($100 - gun/assault weapon) through a cash contribution. Goods For Guns will use these monies to purchase product vouchers from area merchants for exchanges and send back to the contributor the serial number of the gun/assault weapon their donation took off the street. Print placements will include subway platforms, commuter rail platforms and phone kiosks in high traffic areas.
For those who donate $1,000 or more, we will return to the contributor a block of metal representing the guns their donation removed from the street after their melt-down at a foundry.
  • Change For Change. A grassroots fundraising campaign whereby Goods For Guns will distribute "collection displays" to retail outlets in areas plagued by gun violence for placement at point-of-purchase locations. Individuals may contribute small change and bills to support our efforts to get guns off the streets. Monies collected will be used to purchase product vouchers from area merchants for the exchanges.
  • Corporations

  • Sponsorship Packages. Solicitation of goods will be through corporate sponsorship packages. Packages will be developed and targeted for companies with significant stakes in our inner cities, as well as for past supporters. Packages will include three types of support: goods, general and administrative, and in-kind technical services. Companies will be offered a product-specific or industry-specific right to participate in the program. Major supporters who provide goods and general operating support will be granted the opportunity to use Goods For Guns' trademarked names (Goods for Guns and Toys for Guns) and trademarked logo as part of their marketing program.
  • Merchandising. Goods For Guns' names and logo are commodities with commercial value. We envision opportunities (particularly in apparel) where Goods For Guns will develop merchandising programs with some of our corporate sponsors, to ensure income for Goods For Guns.

Foundations

We will target foundations and corporate foundations to provide general and administrative support, and funding for specific programs, such as short films commissioned to promote non-violent conflict resolution.

Entertainment Events

Entertainment events held in conjunction with the gun exchanges offer opportunities to align ourselves with the communities we serve, and raise funds for general and administrative expenses. Benefit concerts are envisioned in exchange cities by rap and other popular performers.

Big ImageHispanics Across America President Fernando Mateo has launched a national campaign aimed at getting Roberto Clemente’s number 21 retired in the same manner which baseball has retired Jackie Robinson’s number. Clemente who is looked upon as a pioneer for all Hispanic baseball players and an ambassador by all Latinos around the world, has all the credentials to be given this honor statistically as a Hall of Famer and as a Humanitarian. A web site has been created to help garner the support of all fans around the world in our quest to get this great honor accomplished. You can log on to www.retireclemente21.com to register your support to this cause.
